System Upgrades

The Tourplan upgrade process follows a structured engagement and scheduling workflow to ensure the upgrade is planned, assessed, and executed safely.

Steps for a successful transition#

  1. Request your upgrade via a Ticket including which versions and systems are being upgraded.
  2. Our Regional Office will contact you to confirm the scope and ensure all details about your environment are current.
  3. A technical assessment is conducted by Tourplan Global Services Infrastructure Team.
  4. Readiness from Tourplan is confirmed and the upgrade is scheduled.
  5. Client pre-upgrade preparations are completed and reviewed with your support team.
  6. The upgrade is executed.

The technical assessment will identify any risks, dependencies or special considerations that may need to be made after a full review of your environment and configuration.

Our Regional Support Teams will provide you with pre-upgrade preparation guidance and timelines.

Cloud Hosted Systems#

A significant benefit of being cloud hosted is our Global services teams can seamlessly manage safe and reliable upgrades. They will ensure you have suitable backups in place, automated tasks are paused and storage requirements are met.

On-premise Systems#

Clients operating on-premise need to undertake a number of tasks prior to an upgrade commencing. These include:

  • Backups.
  • Disk Space Verification.
  • Remote access enablement (if required).
  • Pausing of other scheduled tasks in your workflow.
  • Rolling back custom database changes*.
  • Assigning a technical contact and a backup contact. This ensures fast-decision making and escalation should any issues arise as they can approve actions, provide access or trouble-shoot issues. They must be available during the entirety of the upgrade process.

Recommendations#

Backups - Should the upgrade fail, backups are the primary recovery method. Ideally you should ensure you have:

  • Access to the latest backup.
  • A back up completed with no errors.
  • A restore test has been performed (full or partial).
  • Confirmed it can be opened and restored.

Disk Space - Our Global Services Team will advise you of the required disk space needed for the upgrade.

Automated tasks - These can interfere with file updates, database changes or system restarts during the upgrade. Examples of these automations which should be paused include nightly batch jobs, or data imports/exports. Check with your IT team to identify any potential conflicts.

Live over test - Is a process which refreshes the Test system with a copy of data from your Live system. As Test systems are upgraded first, performing a Live Over Test before an upgrade mitigates the risk when upgrading your Live system. It is highly recommended if:

  • Your system is business critical.
  • You have integrations or customisations.
  • You are upgrading across multiple versions.
